Licensing and account protection

Global regulation

Tickmill Ltd is regulated as a Securities Dealer by the Seychelles Financial Services Authority, licence SD008. This is the entity behind the global tickmill.com offering.

Regional licences

Tickmill UK Ltd — FCA, FRN 717270. Tickmill Europe Ltd — CySEC, licence 278/15. Tickmill South Africa — FSCA, FSP 49464. Tickmill UK also runs a DFSA-regulated representative office in the DIFC (F007663).

Investor compensation

Eligible EU retail clients are covered by the Investor Compensation Fund up to €20,000 or 90% of the claim, whichever is lower. Tickmill states FSCS protection up to £120,000 for eligible Tickmill UK clients.

Negative balance protection

The global Help Center states it is provided to all clients, except in cases of fraud or market abuse. EU and UK pages describe per-account protection for retail CFD clients.

Protection depends on entity

Tickmill explicitly states that regulatory protections and compensation arrangements depend on the legal entity your account is opened under. No compensation amount is published for the global entity.

Automated trading

Expert Advisors are supported on desktop MT4 and MT5. Hedging and scalping are allowed, and the global Help Center explicitly permits high-frequency trading. MetaTrader WebTrader does not run EAs.

Specifications relevant to automated trading

Best suited for Simple, commission-free pricing Raw spreads & frequent trading TradingView workflows, not XAUBOT
Classic
Commission-free

MetaTrader account with floating spreads from 1.6 pips and no trading commission. For an automated strategy, the relevant cost is mainly the spread plus any instrument-specific swap or financing cost.

Raw
EA & scalping

MetaTrader account with floating spreads from 0.0 pips and $3 per lot per side. For fast or frequent strategies, evaluate total round-trip cost rather than the headline spread alone.

TradingView Raw
Not for XAUBOT

Listed for Tickmill Trader and TradingView with $3.50 per lot per side. XAUBOT deploys as a MetaTrader Expert Advisor, so this account cannot run the bot.

How XAUBOT works with a Tickmill account

XAUBOT bots integrate directly with MetaTrader, which connects to your broker’s servers. Your account’s execution quality, commission structure and margin flexibility can directly affect how the bot’s risk logic performs.

Integrated news filter

XAUBOT includes a built-in economic calendar filter that pauses new trade execution ahead of high-impact news releases — the same moments Tickmill warns that spreads can widen.

Universal MetaTrader adaptability

The same software adjusts its order logic to match any MetaTrader account environment, from 0.01-lot positions on Classic to larger volumes on Raw, within the broker's 200-open-order limit.

Configurable risk controls

Position sizing, stop-loss, take-profit, and drawdown limits are set when you download or build the bot so higher available leverage does not automatically mean higher exposure unless you configure it that way.

Hedging support required

Most XAUBOT strategies expect a hedging account. Tickmill allows hedging with 0 hedged margin on Classic and Raw — just run the bot in the desktop MT4 or MT5 terminal, not WebTrader.

XAUBOT strategies and account matching

Different strategies place different demands on spread, execution speed, and margin.

Multi-Level strategies
M15

Open several positions at planned price levels, which increases simultaneous exposure and requires available free margin. Stop out is 30% globally and 50% for EU/UK retail, so leave margin headroom for the full level sequence.

Account fit: Classic or Raw with enough balance for the full level sequence.
Scalp strategies
M5

Short-duration trades that are highly sensitive to spread, commission, and execution latency. Tickmill sets no minimum holding time; compare 0.0 pips plus $6 round turn against 1.6 pips with no commission.

Account fit: Raw, raw spreads with market execution.
Custom-built bots
Any

Bots you configure yourself in the XAUBOT dashboard, choosing market, entry logic, risk level, and filters. Account requirements depend entirely on the settings you choose.

Account fit: Start on a demo account, scale once the configuration is proven.

Running trading bot on a Tickmill account

1

Open a broker account

Register directly with the Tickmill broker, choose MT4 or MT5, and select a Classic or Raw account. A TradingView Raw account will not run a MetaTrader bot.

2

Save your login details

Record the MetaTrader account number, trading password, and exact server name. The account number is the numeric login shown in the terminal not your client portal username.

3

Create your XAUBOT account

Sign up, choose a plan or start the free trial, then either download a ready-made bot based on its verified results or build and generate your own custom bot. Finally, download the .ex4 file for MT4 or the .ex5 file for MT5.

4

Link your license to the account number

In XAUBOT Subscriptions, open Connect Account Numbers and enter the numeric MetaTrader login. A license linked to one account will not validate on another.

5

Install the bot on MetaTrader

Use the desktop MT4 or MT5 terminal, not WebTrader. Place the file in MQL4/Experts or MQL5/Experts, refresh Navigator, enable automated trading, and add https://xaubot.com to the allowed WebRequest URLs.

6

Attach, verify, and monitor

Open the exact broker symbol and required timeframe, attach the bot, enter your license key, and enable Auto/Algo Trading. Confirm the panel shows Live and the Experts/Journal tabs show no errors.

Build a bot, test it on demo, decide for yourself

Free for 15 days with no credit card. Works on any MT4 or MT5 demo account, so you can verify the setup before committing real capital.

XAUBOT works with any MT4 or MT5 broker

If it runs MetaTrader with the symbols you trade, it runs XAUBOT.

Common questions

Yes. XAUBOT exports standard MetaTrader Expert Advisors, so it runs on any broker offering MT4 or MT5 with the symbols you want to trade including Tickmill. Use a Classic or Raw account in the desktop terminal; the TradingView Raw account and MetaTrader WebTrader cannot run Expert Advisors.
Compare total round-trip cost, not the headline spread. Raw starts at 0.0 pips but adds $3 per lot per side, which is $6 per standard lot round turn. Classic has no commission but starts at 1.6 pips. Which works out cheaper depends on the symbol you trade and the spread when your bot actually executes, so it is worth measuring on a demo account first. This information is for guidance only; the final decision is yours.
If you are using the Multi-Level strategy, higher leverage can give the bot more available margin to manage multiple open positions. This can help the strategy keep trades open longer and close groups of positions together when the overall basket reaches profit. Higher leverage does not guarantee better results and should still be combined with proper risk management.
Only in limited cases. 1:1000 is the global headline figure, but the current Help Center states 1:500 as the maximum and default, with 1:1000 on selected symbols on MT5 only. MT5 leverage is dynamic and depends on exposure and instrument; MT4 uses static leverage. EU and UK retail clients are capped at 1:30.
No, Tickmill does not offer a cent account. Test your bot on an MT4 or MT5 demo account first, then start live with the minimum 0.01-lot position size and scale up once the configuration is proven.
Yes. Tickmill offers a premium VPS through BeeksFX with a 20% discount for its clients; it is not described as free. Confirm the specification meets your bot's requirements and that you can access the terminal to check it. Otherwise, any standard Windows VPS works.
Brokers operate multiple legal entities under different regulators. EU and UK entities cap retail leverage at 1:30 and use a 50% stop out, while the global entity offers up to 1:500 by default with a 30% stop out. Investor compensation also depends on the entity. The entity you register with determines your conditions; check before opening an account.
No. This page provides publicly available information about the broker's trading conditions so you can judge compatibility with automated trading. Choosing a broker is your own decision and should account for regulation in your jurisdiction.
